1. Price in 'Beyond "Gotcha!": Situating Plagiarism' discusses the challenges of stablishing the rules for plagiarism in a multicultural environment. When faced with a multicultural class with people from different parts of the world, how can a teacher make sure all understand the Western notion of plagiarism, considering they probably won't have time to sit individually with each student to ensure understanding?
2. Considering the examples posted in "Remix: Making Art and Commerce Thrive in the Hybrid Economy", do you believe plagiarism in the classroom and the Stephanie Lenz's copyright issue are similar or different? And how so?
Camille,
ReplyDeleteI think this is an excellent point! I'm thinking of the lost in translation moment in McElroy's class today, when even when we were looking at student portfolio's people had different opinions about which websites looked professional and which did not. I think this connects to the guest speaker that we had in class who had a particular section of international ideas of plagiarism and how the American standard differs from others. I think your mentioning of cultural context and expectations is an excellent point.
