2. After reading through the Teacher's Guide Part II, which do you think is more beneficial for our ENC2135 students, Project-by-Project grading or grading a student's final portfolio of work? Why?
Welcome to our blog, a space to reflect collectively on our readings. Each post must contribute two questions you have about the reading. Then, you will provide one comment that responds (as a REPLY) to a peer’s questions. If you are the first person to comment, please return to the blog and comment on a peer’s question once more have been posted. Please post to the blog by 8pm the night before class so that we all have enough time to read blog posts before we meet in person.

In response to your question about social media in the classroom, I think it really depends on how much trust we're willing to extend to our students. For younger learners, I'm not sure if the benefits outweigh the potential for distraction. However, I do believe getting students to think about Facebook posts and Tweets as literary genres might make them more engaged. Perhaps allowing students to summarize class discussions using Facebook and Instagram posts might help them better synthesize the material.
ReplyDeleteRemembering how I felt as an undergraduate, I prefer grading project by project. This is a way that I can self monitor myself as to how well I am doing in the class. It really unnerved me to have only one or two grades in a class for the entire semester. I felt as if I had no way to improve or do better. But that is my opinion.
