Do you think Bishop undermine's her argument about use of alternative grammar by using it in the back half of her article making it more difficult to read?
Inoue suggests we move away from a conventional grading standard towards more of a "labor-based grading contract." What do you think this means? What other alternatives do you suggest we use for grading students?
Hey Kelsey,
ReplyDeleteI do agree that we need to move away from the conventional model, as it places a singular mode of writing up on a pedestal as the thing to strive for when in reality there are multiple ways to write well. I suppose for the labor based grading, he means that we effectively grade them on their process - not so much on what they make but what the student puts into it. As for other ways of grading, I don't have the details down, but I think that if we accept a greater diversity of products and take into consideration the student's own voice as well as their background, we would not only be helping them, we would get much more exciting papers to grade.
